Grove
Grove was founded in 1947 and is one of the world’s leading producers of mobile hydraulic cranes with manufacturing facilities in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, and Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
Rich in tradition, the Grove name has been a welcome member of the crane community for over half a century, earning a reputation for strong, reliable lifting equipment consistently popular with those who operate it.
The company offers a full range of mobile hydraulic cranes from 8.6 t (8.5 USt) to 558.8 t (550 USt), comprising all terrain, rough terrain, truck mounted and industrial cranes. It is also one of the leading suppliers of custom-built military cranes for armed forces around the globe.
As a manufacturer it has achieved a number of notable firsts in the course of its history, including introducing the world’s first slewing rough terrain crane in 1968 and the world’s first trapezoidal boom in 1970; and by becoming the first international multi-facility crane manufacturer to receive the ISO 9001 quality assurance certification in 1994.
Grove has also led the industry in terms of technological innovation. Its MEGATRAK suspension system, the TWINLOCK boom pinning system and the MEGAFORM boom design are unique to Grove and give end users a competitive advantage. More than 55,000 Grove cranes have been sold around the world with some companies populating single fleets with several hundred units at a time.
Manitowoc
The heritage of Manitowoc Cranes dates to 1925, when the company built its first lattice boom crawler cranes at its facility in Manitowoc, Wis. Since that time, the very name ‘Manitowoc’ has come to symbolize crawler cranes, and the company’s trademark red machines can be found in every corner of the globe. Manitowoc has become the industry leader in innovation, sales, performance and support.
Today’s company offers 16 units, ranging in capacity from 73 t (80 USt) to 2,300 t (2,535 USt). In addition to Manitowoc, Wis., the cranes are also built at the company’s facility in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, in keeping with the philosophy of producing cranes tailored for specific markets.
In response to customer demand, the company manufactures not only a range of lift cranes but also duty-cycle crawler cranes and wheeled cranes for special industrial and marine applications. Industry-leading technology including the CAN-BUS with EPIC control system and the FACT quick assembly system ensures that Manitowoc Cranes stays ahead of the competition.
Outstanding build quality and excellent reliability means that Manitowoc Cranes units boast some of the strongest residual values in the international construction equipment market. Cranes with 30, or even 40, years of service can still be found at work, and the company’s powerful reputation, innovative modular design systems and exceptional support make them extremely popular with fleet owners. It would require a long, hard search to find a ‘lone’ Manitowoc in a fleet. In fact, the largest single number of crawler cranes and attachments from one manufacturer found in a single fleet are all Manitowocs. That fact speaks volumes.
National Crane
Starting as a small family business in 1945, National Crane has come to symbolize the gold standard of durable boom trucks. The company has led the market in its field for decades, and an estimated 90 percent of all National Crane products sold since 1963 are still in operation today. This is a particularly impressive record, considering well over 30,000 National Crane units have been delivered.
National Crane currently produces 12 series of boom trucks, ranging in capacity from 7,25 t (8 USt) to 36 t (40 USt). It also produces pedestal-mounted versions of its cranes, for use in industrial applications, as well as a range of accessories such as personnel baskets, pallet forks and clamshell buckets.
Its products are usually subject to demanding work routines, being required to lift several times a day, every day. With such intensive work schedules, reliability, durability and ease of operation are key factors. National Cranes has all three – in abundance.
Although North America remains the single biggest market for National Crane, the company’s products are also popular in Latin America, the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions.
Potain
Since its inception in La Clayette, France in 1928, Potain has been the world leader in tower crane production, boasting more than 100,000 cranes sold and installed around the world. Today the company produces over 60 models from manufacturing plants in France, Germany, Italy Portugal and China.
Potain represents a variety of product ranges designed for different applications, which are then sold through the worldwide Manitowoc’s dealer network.
Potain produces three families of tower cranes; the smallest cranes of the Potain range are the self-erecting cranes, ranging from 1,0 t (1.1 US t) to 7,98 t (8.8 USt) capacity. Higher and bigger are the top slewing cranes, varying from 7,98 t (8.8 USt) to 64 t (70.5 USt) capacity, these are also the largest custom-designed special application cranes which reach capacities of 160 t (176 USt).
Innovations include the Vision Cab, the Dialog control system and the LLC range of hoists. The company’s growing reputation has widened its appeal with Potain units. Potain cranes are not only found on traditional construction sites, but are assisting in dam building projects, power stations, shipbuilding yards and bridge building projects.
