Grove rough-terrains to grow in EMEA

Grove’s rough-terrain mobile crane range is among the most complete worldwide. It features seven models ranging from 25 t (25 USt) to 120 t (130 USt) capacity with tip heights varying from 33 m (108 ft) to 85 m (279 ft). These cranes have devoted owners because of their excellent lift capabilities (including pick and carry), user-friendly operation and tireless work ethic.

The biggest rough-terrain market in the world is the US, but outside that the product’s popularity is growing at an assured rate. Grove is the global market leader in rough-terrain cranes and prior to the opening of its new factory in Italy, all its RT machines were built at the Manitowoc Crane Group – Shady Grove facility in Pennsylvania, US. By moving some of its production to EMEA through the Niella Tanaro plant, the company is looking to secure its market-leading position by offering a more ‘local’ service to customers outside the US, and in particular in Italy, which is the world’s second largest RT market.

At Niella Tanaro, the first rough-terrain cranes to roll out the factory doors will be RT530E models, with other models planned in the future. The RT530E is one of the best-sellers in the range, with a rating of 30 t (30 USt) and a full power boom which can extend to 29 m (95 ft). Maximum tip height for the unit is 31.2 m (102 ft) and further reach can be attained through either a 7.9 m (26 ft) swingaway or a 7.9 m – 13.7 m (26 - 45 ft) telescopic swingaway. Power comes from a 6-cylinder Cummins 6BT5.9L engine capable of generating 113 kW (152 hp) at 2500 rpm.

Philippe Cohet, executive vice president of Manitowoc Crane Group in EMEA, said the new factory further demonstrated the company’s commitment to maintaining its market-leading position.

“This new facility at Niella Tanaro reinforces our commitment to the lifting industry. Our ability to respond to the needs of the local market is what sets us apart from our competitors. And it’s not just an ability to respond in a manufacturing sense. We are able to respond from a sales standpoint with our excellent dealer network and a service standpoint with the industry-leading Manitowoc Crane CARE,” he said. “We are continually striving to offer better service to our customers and we will continue to listen to what our customers tell us and respond accordingly.”
