This basic program assumes no prior service and operational knowledge of Potain Systems.  This program begins with company and model history.  Presented next are the basics of Potain Nomenclature, site set-up, and safety concerns.  Detailed explanations of the electrical systems are provided.

The Potain tour begins by reviewing the following topics:

  • Technology of different types of cranes and their safety devices.
  • General crane operation will be reviewed as well as tower crane maintenance.
  • The course will include a brief review of basic AC electrical theory as well as German/French electrical schematic symbols.
  • The functions of basic machine components will be covered. For example transformer, rectifiers, frequency drives, with a detailed description of each components specific role within the cranes overall operation.
  • German/French style electrical schematic navigation will be reviewed, with extensive attention to relay logic and cranes systems. System topics will contain hoist, trolley, and slewing electrical systems as well as related safety circuits.
  • Training will also encompass component identification as well as basic troubleshooting and testing methods.
Objectives:Upon course completion the student will:
  • Have a basic understand of tower crane principles.
  • Be familiar with Potain publication.
  • Have the ability to navigate Potain German/French style electrical schematics and have basic knowledge of troubleshooting methods.
  • Interpret basic load diagrams and reeving systems.
